Accommodation

Hi, welcome to the accommodation Van Mildert College

page for Van Mildert College, Durham.

Hopefully this page should answer any questions you have about the nature of accommodation at Mildert, however if you do have any further questions feel free to email the Vice President, vp@mildert.co.uk.

For those of you who have secured your place at Mildert, you should recieve a Freshers Pack which includes an accomodation application - make sure you fill it in and send it back so we can assign you a suitable room.

Here at Mildert we have around 515 networked study bedrooms on-site (fully-Deerness Roomcatered option only) and college accommodation is available to all First year students. Mildert is the only catered college where no one shares a room.

The majority of students live in for the duration of their first year. Similarly, most (but not all) second years ‘live out’ in various locations throughout Durham for their second year with some then choosing to move back into college for their final year(s).

At Van Mildert there are seven accommodation blocks:

DeMiddleton, Wear and Derwentrwent, Middleton and Wear

Each of these blocks (although they contain different types of decor and are structured differently) are made up of between 55-65 single rooms with shared facilities. Every room has internet access and there is a kitchenette on every floor.  Laundry facilities are available on the ground floor of each block.

Tees/Tyne     Tees and Tyne

Each of these blocks have views across the lake. Each block has 105 rooms with shared shower/WC facilities on every corridor. Every room has internet access, with laundry facilities on the first floor and communal lounges on the first, second and third floors of both blocks.

Tees is split into two sections (North and South) and is traditionally a fresher populated block (with student tutors – either sabbatical staff or selected postgraduates on many floors), whilst Tyne (also split into North and South) is normally inhabited by finalist

Deerness

Deerness

Contains 97 ensuite rooms. All rooms have television points, internet access and an ensuite WC/Shower. Each corridor has a kitchenette/lounge and there are coin operated laundry facilities on the ground floor.

Typically, Deerness has one corridor of freshers whilst the other 3 floors are populated by finalists and postgraduate students

                                           TunstallTunstall

Tunstall is a block of 30 ensuite rooms reserved for finalists.  All rooms have an ensuite bath, shower and WC and internet access.  Tunstall also has a communal coffee lounge, a kitchenette and laundrette facilities.
