The College Bar

3 times winner of The "Best Bar None" Award.

We love our bar, and our bar loves us! Mildert bar has long been one of the best establishments in Durham; an essential stop before a night out or a mandatory call on a Bar-crawl. It's our retreat for sports events, escaping work and responsibility without ever needing to leave the comfort of college.

One of the most profitable bars amongst Durham Colleges

Mildert Bar is managed by a sabbatical Bar Steward, like the President. They are usually a recent graduate on a full-time, 12 month contract to the university, to manage the running and maintenance of all Bar-related events and business. This is the best way to run a student bar! Other colleges use a mix of either an external manager, who doesn't know the students and hasn't experienced the student lifestyle, or a current student, unpaid and preoccupied with their degree. Our Bar Steward enjoys the best of both worlds! They have the time and energy to give 100% to the bar, with the experience and friendships with students so vital to making sure college bar is YOUR bar.

The best range of drinks; regularly updated and refreshed by popular student request.

The bar is run by students, for students. Bar committee is the Steward's personal team, who are directly responsible for all things bar-related. They work together to organise deliveries, cleaning, service and employee matters. They supervise Team Bar- the crew who serve you every time you hit the bar. One of the few paid student jobs in the university, the team is trained to run a highly professional and profitable bar. This is one of the most competitive committee roles in the whole university, with around 10 applicants per place in the last round of Bar interviews. However, whether you work on the bar or just like soaking up the atmosphere, at Mildert you can enjoy the best bar in Durham; and it isn't just us who think so!

Oktoberfest, Bops, Bar-parties and Balls

Mildert Bar is the place to go for quality social goings-on. You haven't experienced sport until you've done the Six Nations, Superbowl, Champions League and the Ashes at Mildert. Popular TV is on the cards, too- the Royal Wedding was broadcast

One of the best-loved watering-holes in the city!
