Van Mildert College JCR

There are many reasons to come to Mildert, but here are just a few:

1. You will be joining a vibrant community, where no two days are the same and there is always something going on.
2. You can be as involved as you like – from helping organise our termly balls, to one day running the whole student body at Mildert, or  just working to achieve a great degree – it’s completely down to you.
3. We have a lake, complete with ducks.
4. All Mildertians who live in College get a single room, unlike some colleges where you have to share.
5. We have one of the best equipped college gyms in Durham.
6. Our buildings have some of the most iconic architecture, outside of the city centre, in Durham.
7. We have the biggest hall in Durham which means we can organise some simply amazing events.
8. Mildert is one of the most active of the Durham Colleges. From charity fundraising, to political debate; and winning sports teams, to community outreach schemes – we’ve got it all.
9. We’re set in eight acres of parkland, that’s plenty of space to work and play.
10. The Science Site and Main Library are just a few minutes walk away.
11. There is a great network of College staff who are all there to make your time here as enjoyable, and productive as possible.
12. There’s a club, society, team or committee for everyone. But, if you feel Mildert is missing out on a hobby close to your heart, you can suggest we form a society to accommodate it. Chances are, we’ll give you some money to help you get started as well.
13. We have the only fully-equipped recording studio in the University.
14. We also have 4 pianos around college; from the little JCR one for anyone to bash around on, up to our beautiful Bechstein concert grand.
15. Our shop makes the best toasties in the University, fact!
16. We throw some of the best events in Durham; our charity fashion show and Jam By The Lake, Durham’s only open air festival, are attended by Locals and students from across the University, as well as Mildertians.
17. It doesn’t matter how good at sport you are – you can always get involved, our football club has enough players to field an ‘F’ Team.
18. We have one of only two University owned, full-sized snooker tables in Durham.
19. We are the only college in the University to have a piece of installation art.
20. We have 115 ensuite rooms.
21. We have formals every two weeks - these are great occasions to wine and dine with your friends.
22. We have our very own tennis court.
23. Our bar puts on amazing events throughout the year, expect bar parties and our very own ale and cider festivals.
24. Our Bar is also 3-times winner of the Best Bar None competition- it's known and loved across the Univeristy.
25. Our summer ball attracts some of the biggest names in the music industry each year...expect the likes of Scott Mills and Hadouken!

27. Our Executive commitee works openly for College - if you want Exec to listen to you, they're always around and ready to listen. 
28. We have some of the best staff going. The porters are always up for a chat and laugh, the secretaries are great and our senior tutors will help sort your issues out.  
29. Our Library is very well stocked, recently refurbished and offers the same resources available at central library. It is also one of only two college libraries listed in the National Archives.
30. We are the only college to run our very own community outreach schemes: get involved in the Primary School, Young Persons and Prison projects, as well as the Community Visiting Scheme!
