Paintball and Alton Towers Trips - Additional Spaces

Dear all,

Due to a miscalculation on my part we still have places available for the Paintball Trip on Wednesday 12th June. There are also a few more places left on the Alton Towers Trip on the 7th June.

The second sign up will be open for 48 hours from 6pm tonight until 6pm Sunday.

Please do not sign up for these if you have signed up previously.

The sign up can be found at www.mildert.co.uk/trips2 - details for these trips can be found on the sign up form.

Best wishes,

Ali

IBM Women in Technology Day

Dear Joe,

The 19th June is IBM's 'Women in Technology' day. This is open to all females from any department and discipline and will take place at Hursley near Winchester.

Full details can be found on the attached poster here, it's a great way to look at careers in technology and will look good on any application to IBM or another tech-based company.

As you may expect, refreshments will be provided throughout the day and up to £50 of travel expenses can be reclaimed.

If you wish to apply you will need to submit a short note as to why you should be chosen - full details on the poster which, once again, can be found here.

I hope your exams are starting to come to a close and that they've been successful.

Best

Matt.

Nightline Training Weekend

Hey everyone!

Nightline’s asked me to let you know about their next Training Weekend, which is happening on the 1st and 2nd of June. Even if you have no intention of becoming a volunteer, it really is invaluable listening training. Although not compulsory, it’s also great experience if you are interested in joining Welfare next year.

Details about sign up are below, feel free to drop me an email with any questions :)

Welfare love,

Would you like to learn more about student welfare issues that affect many of us during our time at University? To listen to talks by professional speakers and engage with the topics in small student-lead group sessions?

The Nightline Training Weekend is coming up after exams on the 1st-2nd June. This is an opportunity to learn more about issues that affect student welfare and to develop listening skills. Whether you are interested in becoming a Nightline volunteer or simply want to expand your knowledge you are welcome to attend the weekend. There is no pressure to apply to become a volunteer, and the weekend teaches you useful skills that will stay with you for life.

To sign up, please email nightline@durham.ac.uk with your name, college, year, course & mobile number. For more information, see www.facebook.com/durhamnightline

Principals Formal

Dear all,

The Principal’s Formal will be taking place this year on Thursday 6th June. This is the penultimate formal of the year, and it is where our annual JCR awards are presented.

It is tradition that each of our committees sit together at this formal. Therefore, we will be running two sign-ups: the first will be for committees, and then the second will be open for everyone else.

Please can I ask committee members to email their head of committee as soon as possible if they would like to attend the formal. Please inform them of any dietary requirements.

Committee heads will need to sign up their committee between tonight at 7pm and Saturday 7pm here.

After this sign up closes we will open up a general sign up on Sunday night.

In terms of entertainment, we have booked out the Princy B boat from 10pm until 2am solely for the use of Mildert students. We will be selling wristbands on the night for £2.50, but more information on this will follow. Due to capacity restrictions, these will be capped at 200 tickets, so will be sold on a first come first serve basis.

I hope you join us for what will be a great celebration of the academic year. If you still wish to make nominations for the JCR Awards, you can do so at mildert.co.uk/awards.

Best wishes,

Ali

Free Barbecue!

Afternoon Mildert,

Some exciting news from the DSU today...

Free BBQ Outside Library

On Thursday 23 May, the Students’ Union will be hosting a feedback session outside the Bill Bryson Library from 11am. All students are very welcome to attend, whether they are actively involved with the Union or not. To thank you for helping us with our research, we will be giving out 400 free burgers.

As part of the event, we will be running short, relaxed and informal focus groups throughout the day. The short discussions will last just 25 minutes and will gather input and ideas on issues such as student activities, representation and student media. All students will receive an e-mail this week offering them the opportunity to sign up to one of these sessions which will guarantee priority access to the BBQ!

So if you're finished with exams, or looking for a way to procrastinate, head down to the library for some free food and the chance to comment on some really important issues!

Hope exams are going well- not long to go now!

Stress Less Afternoon Tea!

Morning Mildert!

Just a wee reminder that today is the first Stress Less Afternoon Tea! If the rain stays off, we’ll be outside Tyne or, if not, in the JCR. We have lots of lovely cakes baked by the SCR, so come and have a study break with us between 2 and 4pm :)

See you there!

Welfare love,
