Ask questions here. Questions will be reviewed by the Welfare Officer and answered by a member of Team Welfare or Welfare Committee. All responses are anonymous.
Where can I get condoms in College?
Condoms are available in the vending machine next to the shop. They come in packs of 4, with 1 lube, and cost £1. These packs can also be purchased at the daily Welfare drop-in, 5-6 in the Patterson Room. Alternatively, you can call or text the Welfare Mobile on 07964 591656.
Where can you go to talk to someone about personal issues?
You can contact a member of Team Welfare between 9am and 9pm everyday of term by calling or texting the Welfare Mobile. Or, if you’d prefer a face to face chat, one of us is in the Patterson Room (next to the JCR office, near Reception) from 5-6 everyday.
If you don’t fancy speaking to a student, the Senior Tutors are amazing. You can find them in the College Offices (go out of the main door, turn left and walk up the stairs), and if they can’t see you right away they’ll make time to see you as soon as possible.
If you think you might need the support of a counsellor, the University has a wonderful service (www.dur.ac.uk/counselling.service). You can drop in everyday from 9am, or call and book an appointment, to chat to a professionally trained counsellor.
If you’d prefer to remain totally anonymous, why not try giving Nightline a call? It’s a confidential listening service run by students, and it’s open 9pm-9am every night of term for calls, instant messages and drop ins.
Whatever you do, don’t suffer in silence! There are loads and loads of people, both in college and in the university, who would love to chat with you.
Love, Welfare x
