Welcome to Van Mildert College JCR

Freshers’ Week Wristband

At Durham we do freshers’ week a little bit differently to other universities… there is no need to buy tickets for individual events throughout the week. Each college has their own Freshers’ Week events calendar, covered by a wristband which gives you access to a whole week of events from the day you arrive in College to the end of the week!

The Fresher’s week wristband is £37 this year, and gives you access to a high energy event and an alternative relaxed event every night.

To buy your Van Mildert JCR Freshers’ Wristband click here.

We are also offering financial support for wristband payments for those students who are care-experienced. For more information, please visit the ‘Financial Support’ section of our website or email president@mildert.co.uk.

Please note, this wristband is only available for purchase for incoming undergraduates and postgraduate students of Van Mildert College.

This is a fundraising event for Van Mildert College JCR, registered CIO 1190990.

College Families

College families are a key part of Mildert life. Each year, first & second year students within college get "college married" and sign up to be college parents for the next year of freshers. As an incoming fresher, if you opt in to be part of a college family, you along with a few others ( college siblings )  will be assigned one of these sets of parents in your Fresher's week - thus making a college family. College families are an excellent way to get to know people as we match families up according to their interests, subjects and hobbies. They are great for making connections with people in older years who don't live at college and it can be particularly nice to know someone in the year above with an extra year's wisdom on your course for advice.
