Events at Van Mildert JCR
Fashion Show
Van Mildert Charity Fashion Show (VMCFS) is one of Mildert’s most anticipated events of the year! We host a diverse and inclusive fashion show with over 100 models and no audition necessary. Held in Epiphany term, it is the perfect chance to take a break from your studies and have fun with your friends modelling for a crowd in support of our chosen charity. Audience members can expect a night sure to be the highlight of the year with table packages and prime seating available.
Summer and Michaelmas Ball
Mildert traditionally has a Michaelmas ball towards the end of the first term to celebrate the first few months of the year and wind down before the holidays. Michaelmas Ball has both meal and ents-only ticket options. Ents often include food ents (we have had pancakes, churros and snow cones in the past) and activities such as zorbing or a caricaturist. Michaelmas ball themes in the past have been hugely varied, from A Crystal Ball in 2023 to Aurora Borealis in 2022.
Summer Ball is traditionally held externally in order to accommodate for its huge popularity! This means the event often has between 800-1,000 people, a three course meal, and often a headliner. In past years we have had S club, Tinchy Stryder, Toploader and the ground breaking Sammy Virji for our 2023 “La Dolce Vita” Ball. But if that doesn’t tickle your fancy, we also have a range of entertainment available like pizza, photo booths and much more.
Mildert Day
Mildert Day is an amazing opportunity in the final term to just celebrate all things Mildert. The day starts with a formal brunch, followed by rides, live music, an outdoor bar and food in the day followed by a ticket to a club in the evening - it is a great event to be part of!
Other events
JamSoc, Formals, Arts Celebration and more…
Don’t worry, it’s not all glitz, glamour and inflatables at Mildert. The JCR runs a huge amount of events throughout the year, and it would be impossible to list them all. Our fundraising committee recently introduced the hugely successful Billy’s Bingo in aid of the JCR’s outreach projects, JamSoc (one of Mildert’s thriving music comms) run ‘Swamp Session’ open mic nights in the bar, and talent is celebrated in our annual ‘Mildarts’ Showcase! If you think something is missing, let us know!
If you would be interested in organising these events, take a look at our committees page to see more about the events committee, and keep an eye on the Recruitment Schedule for application dates! If you have any questions about events, get in touch with our Events Officer - Anoushka.
